Enhancing Security with the IP Camera

The IP camera is an important component of a security system for the home or office because it is actually a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera that is designed for surveillance, but utilizes Internet Protocol (IP) for sending data and the control signals to and from a computer via a Fast Ethernet connection. IP cameras are also known as Internet cameras because they use the same protocol for data transmission in the Internet. And unlike the regular CCTV cameras, where the images captured can only be viewed using a monitor in a particular room, the IP video can be viewed by the user anywhere in the world as long as there is Internet access.
Proprietary software is available for IP cameras so that the computers to which they are connected to can be accessed by the user through the Internet. It is actually possible to view the images being captured the surveillance camera using a web browser in a notebook computer, PDA or smart phone because a specific IP address could be assigned for the computer to which the camera is connected to. Thus, this particular computer can be provided with its own URL so that whenever the user wants to view what is seen by the camera, he simply types this URL into the browser.
There is the type of security IP camera that requires no wires but uses antenna for receiving and transmitting signals. By using the wireless IP camera system people being viewed will have no hint that there are cameras installed since there are no visible wires. In the hidden location, it has the capability of transmitting IP video data to a certain computer. Such type of security system can be utilized in private offices and other public establishments.
The video data is packed down by means of an applications or software, like as H.264 to reduce bandwidth utilization and the storage space operation in the hard drive. Now, the images’ superiority will be maintained. The H.264 standard is specifically used for compressing images and videos.
There are also some negative sides of using an IP camera for home security and business surveillance. First on the list of the negative aspects of IP camera is less number of IP camera manufacturers which make it costly. Another, the IP camera also needs high bandwidth requirement. The computer network settings should also be set up in using IP camera because this is something which is more complicated. The IP camera has technical drawbacks if is used in dark places and the contrast might not that be clear. On the other hand, there are many benefits of using IP cameras in your home or office which will give you’re the required security and remote accessibility.
